Intro to Human Sexuality

E-Portfolio Reflection paper
This class provided a great incites into the human thoughts on sex; the textbook provided not only a United States point of view, but also an international viewpoint as well.
I personally enjoyed the opportunity’s to create questions on subjects pertaining to sexuality, and the go out and talk with classmates, coworkers, and friends, to really see how people, and the people I think I know pretty well respond, not only to discussing sexuality but what they thought on these subjects connected with sexuality.
This final project is a good example of that work, I had the chance to find ads of a sexual nature, and then go find out how people really think about sex in advertising, this was not only fun but also, educational. I learned a lot about how people all over the world look at sexuality, and more about the physical side of sex that I did not know before taking this class.

Final Project summery on selling sex
To start this project I looked up sex in advertising on the Internet, in order to get a fell for what I was getting into. This took much longer than I expected, mostly because I kept getting side tracked reading articles on the subject matter. In so doing I think I got a better view of what the population thinks of sex, as an aid to selling different items and how they go about targeting their desired demographic.
I then spent an even longer time looking at advertisements in many different periodicals, trying to find some of the more mundane one’s, like alcohol or perfume. Then moved on to the not so run of the mill kind. It actually surprised me, not so much on the content itself but the different in advertising from country to country.
I think what I learned most is that as a nation we really have a mild form of sex in advertising, and that our own unhealthy fear of the human body and sexuality is what makes the subject so taboo. At the same time we need to learn that advertising is just that, advertising, and nothing in these ads are promising that the sex or good looks of these models are the reality that you will be getting when you buy there product. Just as with sex in reading material or films, we need to learn a good balance between entertainments, or in this case ads and reality.
In conclusion, this was not only a fun project to create and research but also interesting to see what people’s reactions where when I showed them the ads, and then to get their responses. It also show’s a little where people get their misconception on how they should look, act or interact with another person.
